Virginia Mink Spotted

While its not uncommon to see a plethora of wildlife any time at Mountain Laurel Trails today was an extra special treat. Foxes, bobcats, deer, and the occasional bear are common sights at MLT but today while walking the club moss trail by the creek I got to see a Mink. I had no idea what I was looking at so I asked my friend Brian Williams of the Dan River Basin Association and he told me it was a mink.

He was abort 2″ long, black and has a brushy looking tail. He ran along the river bank to get away from me, jumped in the creek and swam across to the other side before scurrying off into the trunk of an old dead tree. Brian said it was uncommon to see them in the daylight so I can only assume he was out looking for food. So come out and Hike, Bike or whatever in Gods country any time you like, you never know what you”ll see.
